There is insufficient power to start the fridge. This is similar to what happens when you sweat on a hot day and the evaporation of sweat from your skin carries your body heat away. Some of the refrigerant evaporates, which stores the heat in the refrigerant gas. If you look at the below diagram, you will see that heat flows from the food to the refrigerant in the coils of the evaporator.
